The pub was formerly located at numbers 10 and 12 West End Lane, moving next door when the current establishment was constructed in 1928.
It has had many changes and visitors over the years, some who have left their mark. Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor visited when it was undergoing a facelift and autographed an area of the wall which is still visible, protected by perspex.

The pub is opposite the site of Watson's Optical laboratories which helped pioneer the first artificial lung.
The Lord Nelson is littered with nautical memorabilia, a collection of minatures from a former regular and has a collection of cruet sets (all of which are used on a daily basis).
Despite current lack of respect for others property we have been lucky and have only had two sets "borrowed" yet to be returned, maybe one day......... Ironically the last set to "grow legs" was a Policeman and a Robber with his swag bag! |
